Choose a proper Golf Grip
A proper golf grip is important for a good golf shot. It is the first thing
a beginner in golf should learn. There are several golf grips: the basic golf grip, the
overlapping, the interlocking and the baseball or 10 finger grip. The correct grip is
what feels right for you.
Here is the basic and proper golf grip for a right handed golfer.
Reverse the hands for a left handed golfer:
- Hold the golf club in front of you on the ground at about a 45 degree angle.
- Grip the club with your left hand. The thumb is on top of the club pointing down.
The club will lie across the fingers and across the lower section of the index finger.
- With your right hand, grip the club above the left hand with your index finger and thumb.
The thumb should be be on top pointing slightly to the left.
If you are a player with large hands, you can try the overlapping grip. Here the small
finger of the right hand lies on top of the index finger of the left hand. You can adjust so that
the small right finger lies on top between the left hand's forefinger and middle finger.
Young players or players with small fingers can use the baseball or 10 finger grip.
All fingers are on the club. The index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the
right are next to each other but do not overlap.
Players with shorter hands can use the interlocking grip. Here the index finger of the
left hand and the little finger of the hand overlap and interlock.
