Get more Enjoyment out of the Game by following Golf Course Etiquette

Golf course etiquette is important, because the game of golf is played without close supervision. The game relies on the honesty of the individual players. All players should conduct themselves in a friendly and courteous manner.

These are some of the guidelines to follow:

  1. Always be aware where your partners are before making a swing, especially practice swings. Do not play before the players in front are out of range. If you hit a shot that might endanger another player or spectator, shout a warning. The accepted word is "fore".
  2. Do not distract other players with noise or by moving around.
  3. On the putting green do not walk in front of the ball of another player. Remain out of another player's line. Repair any divots or ball marks.
  4. Do not hold up play with slow play. If the foursome cannot keep up with the pace in front, the foursome behind them should play through.
  5. After playing out of a sand bunker, be sure to smooth out any footprints or holes with a rake.
  6. Always repair any damage done to the fairways after hitting the ball.
  7. Be especially careful, if you have to go into another fairway to play your ball.

If players follow course etiquette by being courteous and show consideration to other players, it will speed up the game and make the game more enjoyable.
